Chatswood Sydney · Complex Problematic Skin

DMK Acne & Barrier Repair
Cellular skin rebuilding. Stop the cycle.

Paramedical Skin Revision · The Clinical Answer

Acid stripping and aggressive surface extractions only shatter the barrier further and keep the breakout cycle spinning. At MARA.H, we use DMK’s transfer messenger enzymes — the Plasmatic Effect drives reverse osmosis to flush internal toxins and rebuild cellular function from within. The clinical answer when topical regimens, prescriptions, and ordinary facials have failed. Designed by founder Marina Hu (founder of MARA.H, 15+ years focused on complex problematic skin) and performed by the MARA.H clinical team, DMK-validated.

Symptom Identification

Which Skin Crisis Are You In?

Different forms of acne and barrier failure require different clinical interventions. Accurate identification is the first step to breaking the cycle.

Hormonal

Adult & Hormonal Acne

Deep, painful cystic breakouts concentrated along the jawline, chin, and around the mouth. Driven by hormonal fluctuation, chronic stress, or gut microbiome disruption.

Barrier Damage

Compromised Barrier

Skin constantly red, burning, stinging, and intolerant to any product. Typically caused by over-exfoliation, acid overuse, or prescription cream dependency — the acid mantle is completely broken.

PIH / PIE

Red & Brown Acne Marks

The dark red or brown marks left behind after acne resolves. Especially stubborn on Asian and darker skin — typically require photonic intervention (picosecond laser) to fully clear.

Textural Scars

Indented Acne Scarring

When severe inflammation has consumed dermal collagen, the skin surface collapses into indents. Skincare cannot reach these — physical microneedling is required to trigger collagen remodelling.

The DMK Philosophy

Work With Biology. Don’t Override It.

DMK’s foundational belief: skin disease is internal imbalance surfacing on the body. We do not strip, we do not mask symptoms — we use messenger enzymes biologically matched to human chemistry to force the skin back into normal function.

01. Remove

Hydrolyse dead cellular debris and toxins to open cellular pathways.

02. Rebuild

Drive oxygenated blood deep to reconstruct the slightly acidic acid mantle.

03. Protect

Powerful antioxidants shield the skin from free-radical damage.

04. Maintain

DMK Home Prescriptives lock in the cellular changes between sessions.

The Signature of DMK

The Visible
Plasmatic Effect

This is what separates DMK from every other skin protocol on the planet. As the enzyme mask hardens across the face, it creates a vast inward-pressing tension network. This network pressure forces the capillaries of the face and neck to dilate (you’ll feel a strong pulsating heartbeat across your skin).

At this moment, reverse osmosis begins: fresh oxygenated blood floods the cells with nutrients, while metabolic waste and lymphatic toxins stagnating in the interstitial fluid are mechanically forced out.

After the mask is removed, a clearly visible red “capillary roadmap” appears across your face and neck. This is not an allergic reaction. This is photographic proof that oxygenated blood has flushed through your skin. It fades completely within 20 minutes, leaving the skin glowing, resilient, and clinically alive.

Quick Answer

The Plasmatic Effect is the temporary red “capillary roadmap” visible across the face and neck immediately after a DMK enzyme mask is removed. It signals reverse osmosis in action — fresh oxygenated blood flooding the tissue while lymphatic waste is flushed out. It typically fades within 15–30 minutes.

Healthy rebuilt barrier after 12 weeks of DMK Enzyme Therapy Sydney After 12 Weeks

From Inflammation to Resilient Barrier

This client came to MARA.H after years of acid stripping and aggressive extractions elsewhere. Her acid mantle had collapsed, leaving her skin reactive, inflamed, and overrun with cystic breakouts.

We stopped every destructive intervention and ran a strict 12-week paramedical barrier rebuild:

  • 1. Calm & Purify Restrained sterile extractions paired with high-energy LED Blue Light to kill P. acnes bacteria and suppress active inflammation.
  • 2. DMK Cellular Rebuild Weekly DMK Enzyme Therapy to flush toxins, restore acid-mantle balance, and rebuild the skin’s natural immune defence.
  • 3. Clear & Erase After the skin fully stabilised, PICOSURE® PRO picosecond laser cleared residual red and brown acne marks safely.

After Barrier Stabilises

Then PICOSURE® PRO Clears the Marks.

The standard MARA.H clinical sequence for clients with active acne plus existing PIH or scarring is: DMK first (rebuild the barrier, stop the breakout cycle), then PICOSURE® PRO picosecond laser to safely address residual pigmentation once the skin has stabilised. In this order, results are dramatically more complete.

Before You Decide

Risks and Suitability

Results and responses vary

How your skin responds depends on the state your barrier is in when you start, what has been used on it before, hormonal factors, and how consistently the home prescriptives are followed. The enzyme masque sets firm over about forty-five minutes and pulls against the facial muscles, and how strong that pulsating sensation feels differs from one person to the next. Skin that is congested, or that has been over-treated in the past, can look more reactive before it looks better, and breakouts can surface during the early sessions as follicles clear. Conditions such as hormonal acne, rosacea and pigmentation are managed over a course and over time rather than resolved in one appointment, and they can return.

When this isn’t suitable, or needs assessment first

Enzyme therapy is not carried out over active skin infection, open or broken skin, or an acute flare of eczema or dermatitis in the treatment area. Tell the clinical team if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are taking isotretinoin or stopped it recently, have had recent laser, needling or peel treatment, have a history of keloid scarring, or get cold sores — some of these mean the protocol changes and some mean we wait. Because the masque sets firmly across the face and stays in place for an extended period, tell us beforehand if you have asthma, difficulty breathing through your nose, or find enclosed sensations distressing. A known allergy to any ingredient, including botanical and enzyme components, must be raised before the first treatment.

If something doesn’t seem right

Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. Redness that has not settled by the following day, swelling, itching or a rash spreading beyond the treated area, blistering, or skin that keeps getting worse rather than settling across a course should be looked at rather than waited out. If it is severe, if you have difficulty breathing, or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.

Aftercare

After DMK Enzyme Therapy

On the day

Skin commonly looks flushed with visible capillary response after the enzyme mask — the plasmatic effect settles over a few hours. Do not wash the treated area for the rest of the day; residue timing follows what your therapist sets on the day. No makeup today, and no touching or picking.

Days 2 to 7

Some tightness and mild flaking can follow as the skin turns over. Let any dryness resolve with the recovery products you were given rather than exfoliating it away. Most people return to their usual day immediately.

Avoid throughout the recovery period

Exfoliating acids, retinol, vitamin C and scrubs; saunas, steam and heavy sweating; swimming pools and spas; deliberate sun exposure and tanning.

Sun protection

SPF50+ broad spectrum every morning, reapplied every 2 hours outdoors for the first two weeks.

When you can resume

ActivityWhen
Washing with cool-to-lukewarm waterThe next morning — earlier only if your therapist says so
MakeupAfter 24 hours
Hydrating sheet maskAfter 24 hours — hydrating only
Vigorous exercise or heavy sweatingAfter 48 hours
Sauna, hot baths, facial steamingAfter 48 hours
Swimming pools and hot springsAfter 48 hours

Call us if

Redness that is spreading, fever, increasing pain, blistering, weeping or pus, intense itching, swelling that does not settle, or anything you would describe as getting worse rather than better. Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.

One more thing

Your therapist will give you instructions based on how your skin actually responded on the day. Those take priority over this page.

DMK Enzyme Therapy FAQ

A paramedical skin revision system developed by Danne Montague-King using transfer messenger enzymes. The signature treatment uses a hard-setting mask that creates the Plasmatic Effect — reverse osmosis flushing lymphatic toxins, oxygenating tissue, killing acne bacteria, and rebuilding the skin barrier at the cellular level.

At MARA.H, performed by a Validated DMK Practitioner on the MARA.H clinical team, with every program designed jointly with founder Marina Hu.

As the mask sets over 45 minutes, you feel a strong pulsating sensation throughout the face and neck — this is the Plasmatic Effect. Intense but not painful, and it is the mechanism that makes lasting skin revision possible.

After removing the mask, a temporary red capillary ‘roadmap’ appears and fades within 15-30 minutes, leaving the skin glowing and plump.

Neither. DMK’s core purpose is to thicken and strengthen the barrier. The sensation is tightness and pulsation as the Plasmatic Effect engages — not pain. DMK only hydrolyses dead keratin on the surface; it never damages healthy living cells. This is the opposite of acid stripping or aggressive peeling.

The paramedical clinical answer for: severe and recurring acne (including cystic), rosacea-prone and chronic redness, compromised barriers from over-exfoliation or harsh actives, melasma support (as part of a barrier-rebuilding protocol), post-laser recovery, and premature ageing requiring structural skin support. Programs are individualised by Marina and Nancy at consultation.

Yes — DMK is one of the safest paramedical protocols for Asian and multicultural skin. The anti-inflammatory mechanism is particularly valuable for clients prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Read why specialist care matters for Asian skin.

Most clients see visible reduction in redness and new breakouts within 2-3 sessions (about 4 weeks).

For complete barrier rebuilding (severe acne, compromised barrier from prescription cream overuse, chronic reactive skin), programs typically run 6-12 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart, followed by monthly maintenance.

In-clinic enzyme work and DMK Home Prescriptives function as a single system. The homecare continues the barrier-rebuilding between sessions. We do not commence programs with clients unwilling to follow the homecare protocol — because results require both.

Minimal — post-Plasmatic redness fades within 15-30 minutes. For more intensive DMK protocols (Muscle Banding, acne revision programs), light flaking or dryness may occur for a few days as the skin renews. Nancy provides detailed aftercare and Beta Gel for any reactivity.

All DMK Enzyme Therapy at MARA.H is performed by our Head Therapist, an officially Validated DMK Practitioner with years of clinical experience. Programs are designed in consultation with founder Marina Hu, who has focused on complex problematic skin for 15+ years.
