What Lip Blushing Can Do For You
Lip blush is not about creating an artificial look. It is about taking what you already have and making it undeniably better.
Colour Enhancement
Restore or deepen your natural lip colour. Ideal for lips that have lost pigmentation, appear pale, or simply lack definition against your complexion.
Symmetry Correction
Marina’s precise mapping technique corrects uneven lip borders and asymmetry, creating a balanced, harmonious lip shape tailored to your facial geometry.
Fuller Appearance
Strategic colour placement and border definition creates the optical illusion of fuller, more voluminous lips — without filler, without compromise.
Wake Up Flawless
No more reapplying lip colour throughout the day. Your lip blush works through workouts, meals, and long days — fading beautifully over 2–3 years.

ASPA Gold Award Winner.
Lip blushing is one of the most technically demanding semi-permanent procedures — the lips are highly sensitive, the skin is thin, and the colour must be calibrated precisely to your undertone and desired outcome. Marina’s 15+ years of award-winning expertise means your result will be as natural or as defined as you choose, executed with absolute precision.
Marina specializes in Asian and multicultural lip anatomy — understanding that the ideal lip colour for porcelain skin is entirely different from what works for deeper or olive complexions.

Lip Mapping & Colour Consultation
Marina assesses your natural lip shape, symmetry, and skin undertone. Together you select your colour — from the most subtle nude enhancement to a deeper, more defined rose or berry tone. The shape is drawn and approved before anything is permanent.
Numbing & Pigment Blending
A topical anaesthetic is applied for 20–30 minutes. Your custom pigment is blended to precisely match your desired outcome — never a stock colour applied to every client.
The Lip Blush Procedure
Using a fine needle and watercolour technique, Marina deposits pigment in soft, layered passes to build natural depth and colour. The border is defined with precision, the body of the lip filled with a sheer wash of colour.
Complimentary Perfecting Touch-Up
Included at 4–6 weeks. The healing process reveals your true result — the touch-up refines colour saturation, corrects any uneven fading, and finalizes your shape.
“Lip colour should look like it belongs on your face — not painted on it. My goal is always the same: your best lips, naturally.”
— Marina Hu, Founder & ASPA Gold Winner

The Healed Result.
Not day one — every day.
This photograph was taken after the full healing journey and the perfecting session — this is the colour that actually lives in your lips: a healthy, natural flush with quietly defined borders, no lipstick required. The first few days always look darker and more saturated; what you see here is the true, settled result.
Colour that reads as your own
The tint sits within the lip, not on top of it — so it flatters your natural undertone instead of masking it.
A clean, defined border
Symmetry and outline are corrected during mapping — the definition is what makes the colour look intentional, not tattooed.
Zero daily maintenance
Through workouts, workdays and long weekends — the flush stays. It fades gradually over 2–3 years rather than wearing off unevenly.
Outcomes vary between clients based on natural lip tone, skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. The final result is judged after your included perfecting session.

Risks, Recovery and Suitability
What most people experience
Scratching and pressure during the procedure, with numbing applied. Lips swell noticeably afterwards, usually most on the first day and settling over two to four days. The colour looks far brighter and more saturated than the final result for the first few days — this is expected. The lips then dry, tighten and flake, and the colour looks patchy and much lighter before it comes back over the following weeks.
Less common risks you should know about
Cold sores are the risk specific to lip work: the procedure can trigger an outbreak in anyone who has had them, and an outbreak during healing can pull colour out and can scar. If you get cold sores, speak to your GP about preventive treatment before booking. Healing is not fully predictable — patchy retention and uneven colour are common enough that a perfecting session is part of the process. Infection can occur if the area is exposed to water, steam or unwashed hands during healing. Allergic reaction to pigment is uncommon and can appear months or years later. Picking flakes can pull pigment out and can scar.
Recovery and what it affects
Plan around several days of swelling and then flaking, and expect eating, drinking and speaking to feel different for the first few days. Do not book before an event or a holiday involving swimming, sun or heat. The detailed timings — washing, balm, eating, makeup, exercise, swimming, sun protection — are set out in the aftercare section below, and your artist’s instructions on the day take priority over any general guide.
Results and responses vary
The result is your natural lip colour plus the pigment, not the pigment alone, so the same colour reads differently on different lips. Deeper natural lip tone, uneven pigmentation in the lips, smoker’s lips and very dry lips all affect how much colour shows and how evenly it heals. The final result is judged after the perfecting session, not after the first appointment. This is semi-permanent: it fades and needs refreshing, and lips generally fade faster than brows.
When this isn’t suitable, or needs assessment first
This treatment is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active cold sore or any active infection, over broken or inflamed lip skin, or while taking isotretinoin or within several months of stopping it. A history of cold sores without preventive treatment arranged, a bleeding disorder or ongoing blood-thinning medication, a history of keloid scarring, uncontrolled diabetes, a suppressed immune system, current chemotherapy, recent lip filler, and recent laser or peel treatment around the mouth all mean we assess before proceeding and may decline or postpone.
If something doesn’t seem right
Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. Spreading redness, increasing pain, swelling that worsens after the first two days, blistering or sores, discharge, fever, or a rash or itching around the mouth should be looked at rather than waited out. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.
After your lip tattooing
On the day
If antiviral medication was started before your appointment, keep taking it exactly as your doctor directed, usually through to about day five. Put lip balm on before you shower so water cannot sit on the lips, and keep them covered as often as you can through the first ten days — lips that dry out tighten, and pigment is lost with the flaking. Do not pick, rub or lick. For the first three days there is no kissing, no direct water on the lips, and you drink through a straw. Mild swelling and tenderness straight afterwards is expected, and a cold compress helps.
Days 2 to 7
Flaking usually starts and finishes on its own around day three or four. For the first seven days keep off greasy, hot and spicy food, and off citrus fruit and juice — they affect how the colour settles. Brush your teeth carefully: toothpaste on the lip can lift pigment out of the vermilion.
Avoid throughout the recovery period
Picking, rubbing and licking, for the whole healing period. Citrus or fruit-flavoured lip balm and lipstick for around four weeks, until healing is complete.
Sun protection
SPF50+ every day for the first two weeks once healing allows, reapplied every two hours when you are outdoors, with a wide-brimmed hat to keep direct sun off the lips.
When you can resume
| Activity | When |
|---|---|
| Antiviral medication, if it was prescribed for you | As your doctor directed, usually through to day 5 |
| Lip balm | Before every shower, and often through the first 10 days |
| Kissing, direct water on the lips, drinking without a straw | After 3 days |
| Greasy, hot and spicy food, citrus fruit and juice | After 7 days |
| Citrus or fruit-flavoured balm and lipstick | After around 4 weeks, once healing is complete |
| Picking, rubbing or licking | Never — let the flaking come away on its own |
Call us if
Redness that is spreading, increasing pain, swelling, discharge, fever, or a cold sore breaking out on or near the lips. Call the clinic on 0468 358 861 and do not wait for your next appointment to raise it. Outside opening hours, or if it is severe, contact your GP or call 000.
One more thing
Your artist will give you instructions based on how your lips actually responded on the day. Those take priority over this page.
