Fat Dissolving
The only injectable fat dissolving treatment holding Australian TGA approval for submental fat. Administered by Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421), at MARA.H Chatswood. No nurse-delegated treatments.
MARA.H administers only the single fat dissolving injectable holding Australian TGA approval. Under Australian regulations the medication name cannot be advertised publicly — full product details are provided at consultation with Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421).
Not All Fat Dissolving Is Equal.
The Australian fat-dissolving market includes unregistered products imported from overseas. Only one injectable product has been through TGA evaluation for safety, manufacturing standards, and efficacy. Choosing the regulated option matters.
The Regulated Product Only
We use only the fat dissolving product approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration for submental fat. Its manufacturing, sterility, and clinical evidence have been independently evaluated — unregistered imports have not.
Dr. Jenn Lee Personally
Fat dissolving injectables are prescription medications. At MARA.H they are administered personally by Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421). This is non-negotiable.
Treated Cells Do Not Return
Fat cells destroyed by the treatment are cleared by the body and do not come back. The cells that remain can still change in size, so weight change after treatment affects how the area looks. Unlike cryolipolysis or surface treatments, the result is structural and lasting — provided you maintain stable weight.
How Fat Dissolving Works.
The active ingredient is a molecule the human body already produces — it lives in your bile and helps digest dietary fat. When concentrated and injected into subcutaneous fat, it does the same job inside the body.
Precise Placement
Dr. Lee marks the treatment grid and administers the medication via a series of small subcutaneous injections — placed precisely within the targeted fat pocket while avoiding surrounding structures.
Cell Membrane Lysis
The active ingredient disrupts the membrane of fat cells, causing them to rupture and release their contents. The body then clears the destroyed cells through normal metabolic processes over 8-12 weeks.
“Fat dissolving is the most operator-dependent injectable category we offer. The product is sophisticated. The placement decides whether the outcome is sculpted or uneven. This is why it must be done by a doctor — every time.”
Treatment Areas.
Submental (double chin) is the TGA-indicated area. Other applications are offered following individual clinical assessment at consultation.
Submental Fat (Double Chin)
The most-requested fat dissolving application and the area holding specific TGA approval. Reduces submental fat volume, which changes the definition along the jawline.
Jowls & Jawline
Refinement of small fat pockets along the lower face. Particularly valuable in clients seeking a sharper jaw without surgical liposuction.
Bra Line & Upper Back
Small fat pockets in the upper back, around the bra band, or lateral chest. Common request among clients seeking refined silhouette in fitted clothing.
Targeted Body Pockets
Stubborn small-volume body fat that resists diet and exercise — inner thighs, abdomen, flanks. Suitability assessed by Dr. Lee at consultation.
Fat dissolving is for the reduction of small, localised fat pockets — not weight loss or large-volume body contouring. Clients with significant volume of fat to address may be better served by surgical alternatives. Dr. Lee will discuss the right approach at consultation.
The MARA.H Clinical Difference
Three non-negotiable standards that distinguish fat dissolving at MARA.H from alternatives.
Mandatory Consultation
No fat dissolving treatment proceeds without an individual consultation with Dr. Lee. Medical history, suitability assessment, and treatment plan are established before any injection.
Consultation, Prescription and Treatment by One Practitioner
Administered personally by Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421). The precision of placement determines whether results are sculpted or uneven.
Honest Suitability
If you are not a suitable candidate — or if surgical alternatives would serve you better — Dr. Lee will tell you. We do not treat clients for whom fat dissolving will not produce a meaningful result.
Pair with Masseter Slimming.
Many MARA.H clients combine fat dissolving with masseter slimming for comprehensive lower-face refinement — fat dissolving reduces submental volume, masseter slimming reshapes the jaw width. Together they deliver the V-line definition that is particularly valued in Asian and multicultural facial structures.

What most people experience
Swelling in the treated area is expected and is part of how the treatment works. For submental (under-chin) treatment it is usually most noticeable for the first two to five days and can persist in a milder form for two to four weeks. Tenderness, firmness, bruising, numbness and small lumps under the skin are common in the weeks after treatment. Most people describe a burning or stinging sensation during injection and for a short period afterwards.
Less common risks you should know about
Injury to nerves in the jaw can cause an uneven smile or weakness in the muscles of the lower face. This is usually temporary but can last weeks to months. Difficulty swallowing can occur. Injection into or near a blood vessel, or into tissue outside the intended fat pad, can cause damage to the skin including ulceration and, rarely, tissue loss with scarring. Hair loss at the injection site has been reported. Infection, prolonged firmness, and asymmetry between sides are possible. These risks are related to injection technique and anatomy, but careful technique reduces them rather than removing them.
Recovery and what it affects
Plan for visible swelling. Many people prefer to have treatment when they have several days without commitments where they will be photographed or on camera. Chewing and speaking can feel uncomfortable for the first few days. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot showers and alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours. Sleeping with your head elevated for the first few nights can help. Sessions are spaced at least four to six weeks apart, and more than one session is usual.
Results and responses vary
How much change you see depends on how much fat is present, the quality and laxity of the overlying skin, your age, and how your body responds. Where skin laxity is the main issue rather than fat volume, reducing fat can make loose skin more obvious — this treatment does not tighten skin. Some people need more sessions than others to reach a result they are satisfied with, and some are better served by a different approach altogether.
When this isn’t suitable, or needs assessment first
This treatment is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, or where there is a bleeding disorder or ongoing use of blood-thinning medication. A history of surgery in the area, difficulty swallowing, significant skin laxity, or an underlying medical condition affecting the neck or jaw means we assess before proceeding and may recommend something else. Suitability is decided at consultation, not before it.
If something doesn’t seem right
Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. Spreading redness, increasing pain, skin that changes colour or breaks down, difficulty swallowing, or an uneven smile should be looked at rather than waited out. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.
After fat dissolving injections
On the day
Expect swelling, warmth and tenderness in the treated area from the first hours — with fat dissolving this response is part of how the treatment works, and it can be more pronounced than with other injectables. A cool compress wrapped in clean cloth helps; apply without pressure. Do not touch, press or massage the area, no makeup over injection points today, and no alcohol for 24 hours.
Days 2 to 7
Swelling commonly builds over the first two to three days before it starts to settle, and firmness or small lumps under the skin are usual while the area is processing — they soften over the following weeks. Bruising can take one to two weeks to clear. Sleep with your head raised for the first nights if the treated area is on the face or chin.
Avoid throughout the recovery period
Pressing or massaging the treated area; vigorous exercise in the first 48 hours; saunas, hot baths and steam in the first 72 hours; swimming pools and spas until the injection points have fully closed; alcohol in the first 24 hours; deliberate sun exposure on the treated area.
Sun protection
SPF50+ broad spectrum on any treated area that sees sun, every morning, reapplied every 2 hours outdoors.
When you can resume
| Activity | When |
|---|---|
| Washing the area with cool-to-lukewarm water | The same evening — gently, pat dry |
| Makeup over the treated area | After 48 hours |
| Vigorous exercise or heavy sweating | After 48 hours |
| Sauna, hot baths, steam | After 72 hours |
| Swimming pools and hot springs | After 7 days |
| Alcohol | After 24 hours |
| Your next aesthetic treatment in the same area | After 4 weeks |
Call us if
Redness that is spreading, fever, increasing pain, blistering, weeping or pus, intense itching, swelling that does not settle, or anything you would describe as getting worse rather than better. Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.
One more thing
Your therapist will give you instructions based on how your skin actually responded on the day. Those take priority over this page.
Fat Dissolving FAQ
Fat dissolving injection is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that uses a TGA-approved prescription medication to destroy fat cells in targeted areas. Destroyed fat cells are cleared by the body’s natural metabolic process and do not regenerate. The fat cells that remain can still change in size. At MARA.H, all treatments are administered by Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421), following comprehensive consultation.
Yes. MARA.H uses only the injectable fat dissolving medication that holds Australian TGA approval for the reduction of submental fat (double chin). Under Australian advertising regulations, prescription medication names cannot be displayed publicly online — the specific product is discussed in detail during your consultation with Dr. Jenn Lee.
The submental area (double chin) is the most common and TGA-indicated treatment area. At MARA.H, Dr. Lee also offers fat dissolving treatment for other small-pocket areas where surgical liposuction would be excessive — including jowls, jawline contour, and select body areas. Suitability for each area is determined individually at consultation.
The cells destroyed by the treatment do not come back — they are cleared by the body and cannot regenerate. What that does not mean is that the area is fixed forever: the fat cells that remain can still enlarge, so weight change after treatment will change how the area looks.
Fat dissolving injectables are prescription medications. At MARA.H Chatswood, all treatments are personally administered by Dr Jenn Lee, an Ahpra Registered Practitioner (General Registration MED0002666421).
Most clients require 2-4 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the treatment area, the volume of fat being targeted, and your individual response. Dr. Lee designs each treatment plan at consultation.
Expect visible swelling and tenderness for 5-10 days — this is the inflammatory response that destroys fat cells, and is part of the mechanism. Most clients can return to work the same day but plan for noticeable swelling for the first week.
Numbness and firmness in the area can persist for 2-4 weeks. Final results are evaluated 8-12 weeks after each session as the body clears the destroyed fat.
MARA.H is located at Level 2, 12 Thomas Street, Chatswood NSW 2067 — a 2-minute walk from Chatswood train station on Sydney’s North Shore.
