PICOSURE® PRO
Laser Therapy.
Break down stubborn pigmentation and refine enlarged pores with clinical-grade picosecond laser in Sydney. Mild redness for one to three hours afterwards is usual, and the change builds across a course rather than after one session.

What Does PICOSURE® PRO Treat?
Unlike traditional fractional lasers that rely heavily on heat, PICOSURE® PRO delivers energy in a trillionth of a second, safely treating complex skin conditions without the risk of thermal damage.
Stubborn Pigmentation
The only FDA-cleared picosecond laser proven to safely treat complex pigmentation, sun damage, and deep dermal discoloration. See our dedicated pigmentation treatment program.
Pigmentation Treatment →Acne Scars & Marks
Stimulates profound collagen and elastin production, physically rebuilding the skin to smooth out indented scars and erase red/brown marks (PIH).
Enlarged Pores
The intense photomechanical pressure waves tighten and refine pores, resulting in an incredibly smooth, “glass-like” skin texture.
Tattoo Removal
Specialized wavelengths target unwanted tattoos, breaking ink down into tiny particles for gradual, effective PicoSure laser tattoo removal.

Photomechanical Energy:
Safe for Ethnic Skin Types
Traditional Q-Switched lasers use intense heat to burn away pigment, which often triggers severe inflammation and causes pigmentation to rebound, especially in darker and ethnic skin types. PICOSURE® PRO revolutionizes this approach.
For lifting and contouring beyond pigmentation, read our Non-Surgical Facelift Sydney guide.
Quick Answer
PicoSure Pro is widely regarded as suitable for Asian and darker skin types (Fitzpatrick III–V) because its 755nm picosecond PressureWave™ shatters pigment mechanically rather than thermally — minimising the heat-induced inflammation that triggers post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with older Q-switched lasers. Individual suitability is always confirmed at consultation first.
1. PressureWave™ Technology
By utilizing an ultra-fast photomechanical pressure wave, it shatters melanin pigment into micro-dust particles without creating thermal damage. The surrounding healthy tissue remains completely untouched.
2. Collagen & Elastin Stimulation
Beyond pigmentation, the unique Platinum Focus™ lens activates cellular signaling, profoundly stimulating new collagen and elastin production to smooth fine lines and refine pores.
“Every protocol is calibrated by the MARA.H clinical team — trained to Cynosure factory-certified standards — with each treatment plan matched to your skin type and assessed before every session.”
PICOSURE® PRO for Tattoo Removal.
The same picosecond technology that safely removes melasma also dramatically outperforms older Q-Switch lasers for tattoo removal — particularly for clients with Asian or darker skin who have historically been higher risk for tattoo removal complications.
Faster Clearance
PICOSURE® PRO’s picosecond pulses shatter tattoo pigment into significantly finer particles than Q-Switch lasers. The body clears these faster, meaning fewer sessions for complete removal.
No PIH Cascade
Heat-based tattoo lasers are high-risk for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on Asian and darker skin. PICOSURE® PRO’s photomechanical (non-thermal) action dramatically reduces this risk.
Blues, Greens & Browns
PicoSure’s 755nm wavelength is particularly effective on the tattoo colours older lasers struggle with — blue, green, and brown — alongside excellent performance on classic black ink.
Cosmetic Tattoo Removal — Brows, Lips, Eyeliner
A significant proportion of our PICOSURE® PRO tattoo removal clients are correcting old or unwanted cosmetic tattoos — permanent eyebrow tattoos, lip blush, eyeliner — done elsewhere. PICOSURE® PRO can safely lighten or remove cosmetic pigments to allow new artistry afterwards.
For new artistry following removal, see our Microblading, Lip Blush, and Ombre Brows pages.
For large or full-sleeve body tattoo removal, dedicated tattoo-removal clinics may be more efficient. MARA.H specialises in cosmetic tattoo correction and small-to-medium body tattoo removal where Asian and darker skin safety is the priority. Suitability is assessed at consultation.

Risks, Recovery and Suitability
What most people experience
Redness and mild swelling in the treated area, usually settling within a few hours to two days. Most people describe a warm, stinging sensation during treatment and for a short time afterwards. As pigment breaks down, small dark flecks can appear on the skin surface and typically flake away over one to two weeks.
Less common risks you should know about
Blistering, crusting, and temporary changes in skin colour can occur — either darker than surrounding skin (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation). In deeper skin tones the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is higher, which is why settings are matched to skin type and why a test patch is sometimes used first. Infection and scarring are uncommon but possible, particularly where treated skin is picked at or left unprotected from sun.
Recovery and what it affects
Most people return to their usual activities the same day, but expect visible redness for at least several hours and possible flaking for one to two weeks. Sun protection is not optional during this period. The detailed timings — heat, exercise, makeup, active skincare — are set out in the aftercare section below, and your therapist’s instructions on the day take priority over any general guide.
Results and responses vary
How your skin responds depends on your skin type, the type and depth of the pigment being treated, your sun exposure history, and hormonal factors. Pigmentation conditions such as melasma are managed over time rather than removed permanently, and can return. The number of sessions that suits one person will not be the number that suits another.
When this isn’t suitable, or needs assessment first
Laser treatment is not appropriate during pregnancy, over active infection or inflamed skin, or while taking isotretinoin or medications that increase light sensitivity. Recent sun exposure or tanning, a history of keloid scarring, and some skin conditions mean we will assess before proceeding, and may recommend a different approach.
If something doesn’t seem right
Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. Blistering, spreading redness, increasing pain, or signs of infection should be looked at rather than waited out. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.
After your PicoSure Pro treatment
On the day (0 to 24 hours)
For a few hours the skin is red and warm, in the way mild sunburn is. For most people that settles within two to four hours. Fine dark specks can appear across the treated area — that is shattered pigment coming to the surface, and it is expected. That evening you can clean the area with cool-to-lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser. Not hot water. Pat dry with a clean towel rather than rubbing. Then moisturise as your therapist directs, two or three times a day, keeping the area from drying out. A cold pack helps if it feels uncomfortable. No makeup on the day.
Days 2 to 7
Pigmented spots and freckled areas often look darker than they did before treatment. That is the laser having hit the pigment, not the pigment getting worse. Those darker flecks usually come away on their own within five to seven days, with overall healing taking around one to two weeks depending on the strength used and the area treated. Do not pick, do not peel, do not run a razor over a scabbed area. Let it lift on its own — forcing it off is the most frequent cause of scarring and uneven colour. Keep moisturising and keep the sun off it.
Avoid throughout the recovery period
Vigorous exercise, hot yoga and heavy sweating for 72 hours. Saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and washing your face with hot water for 7 days. Swimming pools, hot springs and soaking in a bath for 7 days, and until scabbing has fully come away. AHA and salicylic acid, retinol, vitamin C, scrubs and exfoliants for 14 days. Deliberate sun exposure, tanning and solariums for the whole recovery period. Stacking other facial treatments — facials, peels, needling, other lasers — for 4 weeks.
Sun protection
SPF50+ broad spectrum every morning, reapplied every two hours when you are outdoors, together with a wide-brimmed hat and shade. UV is the main threat to pigment after this treatment, and sun exposure in the first few weeks is the most frequent reason the result is lost. Sun protection is not optional at this stage.
When you can resume
| Activity | When |
|---|---|
| Washing with cool-to-lukewarm water | The same evening — not hot water |
| Makeup | After 48 hours; mineral and non-comedogenic to start with |
| Hydrating sheet mask | After 24 hours — hydrating only, nothing acid-based |
| Vigorous exercise or heavy sweating | After 72 hours |
| Sauna, hot baths, facial steaming | After 7 days |
| Swimming pools and hot springs | After 7 days, and once scabbing has fully come away |
| AHA, salicylic acid, retinol, vitamin C | After 14 days |
| Your next aesthetic treatment of any kind | After 4 weeks |
Call us if
Redness that is spreading, fever, increasing pain, blistering, weeping or pus, intense itching, swelling that does not settle, or anything you would describe as getting worse rather than better. Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.
One more thing
Your therapist will give you instructions based on how your skin actually responded on the day. Those take priority over this page.
