What Skin Needling Treats

Collagen induction therapy addresses a broad range of concerns driven by collagen loss, structural damage, and skin ageing.

Acne Scars

Indented, boxcar, and rolling acne scars are caused by collagen loss during healing. Skin needling triggers new collagen production to gradually fill and smooth depressed scar tissue over successive sessions.

Enlarged Pores

As collagen production increases and the surrounding skin firms, pore walls tighten and reduce in visible size — creating the cleaner, smoother texture our clients notice most after their course of treatment.

Fine Lines & Skin Laxity

New collagen and elastin fibres thicken the dermis and improve structural support, visibly softening fine lines and restoring a firmer, more youthful skin quality — without injectables.

Skin Texture

Uneven skin surface, roughness, and general textural irregularity respond well to the skin-resurfacing effect of collagen induction therapy — leaving a noticeably smoother, more refined skin surface.

Stretch Marks

Collagen induction at deeper needle depths stimulates remodelling in stretched, thinned skin — gradually improving the texture and visibility of stretch marks over a structured treatment course.

Enhanced Protocol

Combined with PICOSURE® PRO

For comprehensive scar revision, skin needling is combined with PICOSURE® PRO laser — needling rebuilds structure while laser addresses pigmentation and drives deeper collagen stimulation simultaneously.

Clinical Standard

Paramedical MTS.
Not a Beauty Roller.

There is an important distinction between the at-home dermal rollers sold online and clinical MTS (Micro Treatment System) performed at a paramedical clinic. Our devices penetrate at therapeutic depths — calibrated precisely to your concern and skin type — delivering genuine collagen induction in the dermis rather than superficial exfoliation.

All skin needling protocols at MARA.H are performed by the MARA.H clinical team, following clinical standards established by founder Marina Hu — ensuring clinical-grade results with appropriate safety protocols.

The Science

How Collagen Induction
Rebuilds Your Skin.

1. Controlled Micro-Injury

Fine paramedical needles create thousands of precise micro-channels in the skin at a calibrated depth. These micro-injuries are small enough to heal quickly, but sufficient to activate the skin’s wound-healing cascade.

2. Growth Factor Release

In response to the micro-injury, platelets release growth factors that signal fibroblast cells to begin producing new collagen and elastin. This is the skin’s natural repair mechanism — skin needling simply activates it deliberately.

3. Progressive Skin Remodelling

New collagen fibres mature over 4–8 weeks following each session. With successive treatments, the dermis thickens measurably, scars fill, pores tighten, and the skin surface becomes progressively smoother and more uniform. Results continue to improve for months after your final session.

“Skin needling is one of the most clinically proven collagen induction methods we have. The results are real, the science is solid, and when done at the right depth for the right concern — it changes the skin.”

Before You Decide

Risks, Recovery and Suitability

What most people experience

The skin looks and feels like moderate sunburn for the first 24 to 48 hours — red, warm, tight. Pinpoint bleeding during treatment is expected. Over the following days the skin can feel dry and rough and then flake, and swelling is common on the first morning after, particularly around the eyes.

Less common risks you should know about

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can follow in melanin-rich and Asian skin, particularly where the skin is left unprotected from sun or is treated while inflamed. Breakouts in the days afterwards are common in acne-prone skin. Infection, and reactivation of cold sores in people who get them, can occur. Where needle depth or technique is wrong, tracking marks and scarring are possible. Products applied to skin immediately after needling can cause a reaction that would not happen on intact skin, which is why only appropriate products are used during the healing window.

Recovery and what it affects

Plan for a visibly red face on the day and often the next, and do not book treatment immediately before an event. The detailed timings — makeup, exercise, heat, active skincare, sun protection — are set out in the aftercare section below, and your therapist’s instructions on the day take priority over any general guide.

Results and responses vary

This treatment works by controlled injury, so change comes from your own healing response over weeks and builds across a course rather than arriving after one session. How much you see depends on the type of scarring or texture being treated, your age and your general healing. Rolling and shallow textural scars respond differently from deep, sharply defined scars, and some scar types are better treated another way — that is decided at assessment.

When this isn’t suitable, or needs assessment first

This treatment is not appropriate over active infection, an active acne breakout in the treatment area, inflamed or acutely compromised skin, or while taking isotretinoin. Pregnancy, a bleeding disorder or ongoing blood-thinning medication, a history of keloid scarring, an active cold sore, recent laser or peel treatment, and recent sun exposure all mean we assess before proceeding.

If something doesn’t seem right

Call the clinic on 0468 358 861. Spreading redness, increasing pain, swelling that is worsening after the first day, discharge, fever, or blisters and sores appearing should be looked at rather than waited out. If it is severe or you are worried, contact your GP or call 000.

Aftercare

After your skin needling treatment

On the day

The treated skin will be red and can feel hot and tight. That is how skin responds to needling. Skin needling is minimally invasive — the needles pass through the skin surface, so the aftercare matters. Use only the recovery products your therapist has given you; they lower the risk of infection while the channels close over. No makeup for the first 72 hours.

Days 2 to 7

Redness settles over the first few days. Some flaking or roughness as the surface renews is common. Do not pick or scrub it away. Most people go to work or school the same day, but plan around the 72-hour wait for makeup rather than assuming you can cover the redness.

Avoid throughout the recovery period

Exfoliating acids, retinol and vitamin C for the first week. Long stretches outdoors for the first week. Swimming, saunas and heavy sweating for 72 hours.

Sun protection

SPF50+ every day for the first two weeks, reapplied every two hours when you are outdoors, with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to keep direct sun off treated skin.

Call us if

Redness that is spreading, increasing pain, discharge, fever, or anything that is getting worse rather than better. Call the clinic on 0468 358 861 and do not wait for your next appointment to raise it. Outside opening hours, or if it is severe, contact your GP or call 000.

One more thing

Your therapist will give you instructions based on how your skin actually responded on the day. Those take priority over this page.

Skin Needling FAQ

MARA.H in Chatswood offers clinical-grade skin needling (MTS) in Sydney performed by the MARA.H clinical team. Our protocols use paramedical MTS devices at therapeutic depths calibrated to your specific concern — delivering genuine collagen induction rather than surface-level exfoliation. All protocols follow clinical standards established by founder Marina Hu.
Skin needling uses a device with fine paramedical needles to create precise, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the skin’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating production of new collagen and elastin fibres. Over successive sessions, the skin thickens, firms, and smooths — with visible improvement in scar texture, pore size, fine lines, and overall skin quality.
Clinical skin needling at MARA.H effectively treats acne scars (indented, boxcar, and rolling types), enlarged pores, skin texture irregularities, fine lines, stretch marks, and general loss of skin firmness. For deeper scar revision, skin needling is often combined with PICOSURE® PRO laser as part of a comprehensive protocol designed by the MARA.H clinical team.
For general skin quality and fine lines, 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart typically produce visible results. For acne scar revision, 4–8 sessions are usually recommended. Results compound progressively — the skin continues to improve for weeks after each session as new collagen matures.
Immediately after treatment, the skin appears red and may feel warm — similar to mild sunburn — resolving within 24–48 hours. Most clients return to their normal routine within 24 hours. Your clinician will prescribe a specific aftercare protocol including barrier repair serum, paramedical SPF, and guidance on when to resume active skincare.
MARA.H is located at Level 2, 12 Thomas Street, Chatswood NSW 2067 — a 2-minute walk from Chatswood train station on Sydney’s North Shore. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (by appointment only). All skin needling treatments begin with a skin assessment to calibrate the right protocol for your concern.
